1. SCHOLARSHIP PROMISE.
If the Dreamer meets the requirements stated in paragraph 2, then the Dreamer will receive,
on a last dollar basis, a scholarship equal to the full tuition cost of a local resident
attending a local state college or university, i.e., University of Nevada, Las Vegas or
Community College of Southern Nevada (the "Scholarship"). This scholarship will be for
four (4) years and shall be applied toward tuition only. The scholarship shall be paid
directly to an educational institution (the "School") selected by the Dreamer and approved
by the Foundation. Unless approved by the Foundation, no funds will be paid for any
purposes other than tuition and fees, which are not otherwise paid by scholarships from
the School or other sources. "Last dollar basis" means that every Dreamer is expected to
apply for all public tuition grants (Federal, state, local) that are regularly available
and for which the Dreamer is considered to be eligible and that the Scholarship will be
paid only to cover the amount of tuition not first paid by public tuition grants.
2. DREAMER'S RESPONSIBILITY.
In order to earn the Scholarship, the Dreamer must:
-
Graduate from high school in the usual and normal time period, unless
extended by the Foundation, with courses and grades acceptable to the
School chosen by the Dreamer.
-
Behave, in and out of school, in a manner that does not interfere with the
Dreamer's education or disrupt program activities. Continual disregard
for the rules and regulations of the Clark County School District and laws
of the City, the County, or the State where the Dreamer lives may cause
expulsion of the Dreamer from the program and loss of the scholarship.
The decision to expel the Dreamer from the program will be made by the
Foundation.
-
Make every effort to attend the meetings, tutoring sessions, and other
activities provided by the Foundation for the enrichment of the
Dreamer's education.
-
Enter the chosen school within 16 months of high school graduation,
unless an extension is approved by the Foundation.
3. GUARDIAN APPROVAL.
The Guardian hereby agrees to the Dreamer being in the program and attending all
activities provided by the Foundation during the term of the program. These activities
may include, but are not limited to: tutoring; educational, recreation, and enrichment
activities; preparation for college entrance examinations; field trips; counseling and
guidance; and group discussions and meetings with Dreamers and parents, where appropriate.
The Guardian agrees that the discussions with the Dreamer may include topics that may be
deemed sensitive, such as substance abuse, peer pressure, postponing parenthood, and
self-esteem.
The Guardian agrees that The I Have a Dream program, through the Project Coordinator
assigned to the Dreamer, may review with appropriate school personnel, the Dreamer's
attendance and academic records in order to provide appropriate services, when necessary.
The Guardian authorizes the Project Coordinator and other persons associated with the
Foundation to arrange for emergency medical treatment in the event of accident or illness
occurring during program activities.
In return for the Dreamer being permitted to take part in these activities and the benefit
the Dreamer will receive from taking part in these activities, the Guardian herby relieves
and releases the Foundation, its directors, officers, employees and volunteers, the Clark
County School District, its officers, employees and agents, and all persons assisting in
these activities, from any and all liability from any accident or injury of the Dreamer
while taking part in these activities. The Guardian agrees to indemnify all of the parties
described above from all claims made by or asserted on behalf of the Dreamer.
